Winnipeg Freeze defenseman, Evan Stirling was named one of thirteen, MJHL – RBC Community Ambassadors earlier this season.
Each ambassador has displayed outstanding citizenship and sportsmanship both on and off the ice and a commitment to volunteerism. RBC Community Ambassadors are recognized for making a difference and giving back to their communities where they play.
“For me it’s very important to give back to the community because it’s the little things that matter and go the furthest,” Stirling shared. “If it’s skating with kids or collecting donations there’s always someone watching and or looking up to you as a junior hockey players.”
A donation was made by RBC on Evan’s behalf that will go toward Ecole River Heights School.
“To me it’s amazing and an honour, it’s not every day you are able to make a donation to the sport you play and create opportunity for others to have the same experience I did. It’s also something that I will remember for a lifetime, seeing all the smiles of those my teammates and I have helped, it’s all about family and I definitely won’t forget about it,” he concluded.
During the MJHL Turnbull Cup Finals, one RBC – MJHL Community Ambassador will be named as the recipient of the RBC Community Award, which comes with a further donation from RBC in the player’s name to a school in their local community.
