Freeze Keep It Close But Fall To Nighthawks

Niverville, MB – The Winnipeg Freeze were in Niverville on Sunday for a showdown against the Nighthawks, and kept the game within a couple goals until the third, where the Nighthawks scored 3 to beat out their east-division rivals.

The game started off with a bang, after 6 straight shots from the Nighthawks, Evan Panzer of the Nighthawks would net the first goal of the game to make it 1-0 Niverville.

Less than a minute and a half later, Dawson Zeller would make it 2-0 with a clean shot on the Freeze netminder.

Niverville was clearly on, and so was Braxton Burdeny, as the Freeze netminder steered aside 18 of 20 shots in the first period, and was keeping the Freeze in it despite the lack of offense.

In the second, the Freeze would push. Along with some more big saves from Burdeny to create some momentum, in the end it was Jayden Penner, with his first MJHL goal nineteen minutes late into the second to make it 2-1

The third would start off with a bang, the Nighthawks would create pressure, and Lucas Bertolin would find his second of the year about four minutes into the final frame to make it 3-1.

Five minutes later, Evan Panzer would net his second of the game and sixth of the season to make it a 4-1 game, and the Freeze’s Carter Kingerski would respond with a howitzer from the top of the circle less than twenty seconds later.

With the game at 4-2, the Freeze would have a bit more offensive zone pressure but ultimately it was the Nighthawks’ Sean Williams sealing the deal for Niverville with a huge goal on Burdeny to make it 5-2.

The Freeze are back in action on Tuesday at home to take on the Winkler Flyers in a 7:30pm puck drop, and the last time these two teams played one another was on Friday, where gloves were dropped and fireworks flew.
